The College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah discussed a Master's thesis titled "Synthesis and Characterization of Novel Models of Hydroxylamine Medicinal Derivatives" presented by the student Mohammed Abbas Hussein.
The thesis involved synthesizing a novel hydroxylamine derivative starting from Tinidazole. Six new nitrone derivatives were synthesized using substituted aromatic aldehydes. All synthesized compounds were structurally confirmed using modern spectroscopic methods: (FT-IR, MS, ¹H-NMR, and ¹³C-NMR).
The study evaluated antioxidant activity using the DPPH radical scavenging assay, assessed antibacterial efficacy against Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae, and investigated cytotoxic effects against human colon cancer cell line (HT-29). Furthermore, pharmacokinetic properties were predicted according to Lipinski's Rule of Five, complemented by molecular docking studies targeting DNA gyrase B.
The study aimed to design, synthesize, and chemically characterize novel hydroxylamine and nitrone derivatives derived from Tinidazole, evaluating their antibacterial, antioxidant, and anticancer activities, producing novel drug candidates with promising bioactivities.
The findings establish a valuable foundation for future studies to optimize these compounds and further investigate their therapeutic efficacy and safety profile.
