College of Pharmacy Discusses the Protective Effects of Iraqi Propolis

The College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah discussed a Master's thesis titled "Potential Protective Effects of Iraqi Propolis Against Chlorpyrifos-Induced Endocrine Toxicity in Adult Male Rats" presented by the student Zainab Haider Abdulameer.

The thesis investigated the impact of the pesticide Chlorpyrifos on the endocrine system in adult male rats. Sex hormones, specifically LH, FSH, and Testosterone, were evaluated. The study also assessed thyroid gland function by measuring levels of T3, T4, and TSH, along with evaluating oxidative stress markers through reduced glutathione (GSH) level measurement.

The study aimed to evaluate the toxic effects of Chlorpyrifos on the reproductive system, thyroid gland, oxidative stress parameters, and inflammation, as well as assessing the potential protective efficacy of Iraqi Propolis compared to Vitamin E in mitigating these toxicities.

The significance of this research lies in elucidating potential mechanisms of toxicity induced by pesticide exposure, particularly endocrine disruption, oxidative stress, and inflammation, while supporting the utilization of Iraqi Propolis as a natural antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent against chemical and pesticide toxicity.
