The medical unit affiliated with the College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah has received official approval from the Iraqi Ministry of Health to participate in providing healthcare and emergency medical services to pilgrims attending the annual Arbaeen commemoration of Imam Al-Hussain (peace be upon him), as part of the Ministry's plan to organize the work of voluntary teams and medical units during the million-strong visitation.

Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Prof. Dr. Jibran Khalil Hassan, stated that the approval was achieved in cooperation with the Dean of the College of Pharmacy at Al-Maqal University, Dr. Falah Hassan Shiri, who worked to officially register the unit that the College establishes annually through the efforts of its staff. The order was issued by the Ministry of Health — Office of the Director General — Voluntary Work Division, and included authorization for voluntary teams and medical units to operate in accordance with the applicable ministerial regulations and instructions, with the aim of organizing voluntary work, enhancing healthcare, emergency, and awareness services provided to pilgrims, and ensuring rapid response to emergency cases during the visitation.

The approval also included the listing of the College of Pharmacy team at the University of Basrah among the officially authorized medical units to provide medical services along the Al-Bathaa – Dhi Qar road throughout the duration of the plan designated for the Arbaeen visitation of Imam Al-Hussain (peace be upon him).

On its part, the Ministry of Health emphasized in its letter the necessity for voluntary teams to adhere to the instructions and procedures governing the operation of medical units, and to coordinate with the relevant health directorates, security, and service authorities, thereby ensuring the delivery of safe and organized health services that contribute to the success of the blessed visitation and to serving the pilgrims.

This official approval reaffirms the humanitarian and voluntary role undertaken by the College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah, and its commitment to active participation in community service by dedicating its academic and administrative staff to providing healthcare and medical support to the pilgrims of the Arbaeen of Imam Al-Hussain (peace be upon him).
